Travel with the SC Lutheran Synod on a meaningful two-day journey to Atlanta, a city central to the story of the American Civil Rights Movement. Departing from Capitol Tours, this inspiring getaway includes visits to the powerful National Center for Civil and Human Rights, the historic Martin Luther King Jr. National Historical Park honoring the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr., and the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum celebrating the life and service of Jimmy Carter. Enjoy a classic Southern dinner at Mary Mac's Tea Room. This memorable tour offers fellowship, reflection, and an opportunity to walk through some of the most important places in the struggle for justice and equality in America.

·       The cancellation date for this tour is July 7. 2026, which is the last day to cancel and receive a refund from Capitol Tours.  Travel Insurance is available upon request to help protect your investment, subject to eligibility criteria.

SC Lutheran Synod Civil Rights Tour

Tuesday, September 15

  7:30am     Gather with your fellow travelers at Capitol Tours office at 2926 Leaphart Rd, West Columbia, SC 29169. 

  8:00am     Depart from Capitol Tours heading to Atlanta, GA.  There will be a stop along the way for lunch on your own.

  1:45pm     Estimated arrival in Atlanta at the National Center for Civil and Human Rights for a self-guided tour.  The museum is dedicated to the achievements of the U.S. civil rights movement and the global human rights movement.

  5:00pm     Board the motorcoach and continue to dinner.

  5:30pm     Arrive at Mary Mac’s Tea Room for a delicious southern style meal.

  7:00pm     Travel to the hotel

  7:30pm     Check-in at the Courtyard by Marriott – Atlanta/Dunwoody.

 

Wednesday, September 16 – Breakfast is included at the hotel

  7:30am     Have your bags packed and ready for pick-up from your room.

  8:30am     Depart from the hotel and travel to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr National Historic Park.

  9:00am     Arrive at the park for a self-guided tour of the Visitors Center, the old Ebenezer Church, the resting place of Dr. & Mrs. King, and view his boyhood home from the outside (Tours of his boyhood home are limited to 10 people maximum).

11:00am     A public Ranger Talk is offered at the Old Ebenezer Church.

11:40am     Continue to the Municipal Market for lunch on your own.

12:30pm     Travel to the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library & Museum for a timed entry at 1:00pm.  The facility offers immersive exhibits from Carter’s presidency, a full-scale Oval Office replica, A Day in the Life presentation, reproduction of the Camp David Accords and the Nobel Peace Prize.

  3:00pm     It’s time to travel back to West Columbia with lots of great memories.

  7:00pm     Estimated arrival at Capitol Tours.
