  7:30am     Gather with your fellow travelers at the Capitol Tours office on Leaphart Road as you prepare for your 8:00 AM departure to Beaufort, SC.

11:00am     Arrive in Beaufort at the Seaside Bar & Grill where we will have lunch today.  This casual, beach-vibe-inspired restaurant is a favorite with both visitors and locals.

  1:00pm     Depart from the restaurant with our knowledgeable guide for an unforgettable Gullah Tour. Hailing from a locally owned company with deep roots in the Gullah Geechee community, your guide will share rich stories and insights as we visit historic sites. Along the way, experience the unique Gullah language, spiritual traditions, and daily life that have shaped this vibrant culture.

  3:00pm     Our Gullah tour concludes at the Penn Center, a historic and cultural treasure recognized as a National Historic Landmark District. The Center encompasses two of the four sites in the Reconstruction Era National Historical Park, offering a meaningful glimpse into this pivotal period in American history. While here, immerse yourself in the rich traditions of the Gullah and Geechee communities through the annual Heritage Days Celebration, featuring an array of vendors, performances, and cultural experiences that bring this vibrant heritage to life.

  5:00pm     What a fascinating day in Beaufort! From learning the rich history of the Gullah people to soaking in the charm of this coastal town, our journey has been full of stories and memories to treasure. As we head back to West Columbia, these experiences will stay with us long after the trip ends.  There will be a stop along the way for a quick dinner break on your own.
